A: ALGORITHM

An algorithm is a system or programming code that controls and manages the content a user sees on different platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. Algorithms analyse user behaviour such as likes, comments, follows, viewing history and other interactions. The algorithms make decisions about what content to show.

B: BRAND BUILDING

Brand building is the process of shaping or strengthening the image of a product, service or company. Influencer partnerships aim to build a brand. This is often done by influencers sharing their personal experiences and opinions about the product or brand in question on their own social media channels.

B: BOOMER

The generation born in 1946-1964. The term baby boomers refers to the post-war birth rate peak. “OK boomer” means that you are or behave like a member of this age group.

D: DEMOGRAPHIC TARGETING

The way advertising is targeted, based on demographic information such as age, residence and gender.

E: ENGAGEMENT RATE

Refers to the ratio of likes, comments and saves of a publication to its reach.

F: FOR YOU PAGE

TikTok’s feed, which provides content recommended by the algorithm to the user.

G: GRWM

Acronym of words get ready with me. Means the piece of a content where one can chat to their followers while getting ready for the day or evening.

G: HASHTAG

A subject tag is an entity formed by the # sign followed by a word or string. Hashtags allow users to search and find content on a specific topic.

I: IGC

The acronym stands for Influencer generated content.

J: JODEL

A mobile messaging application that allows you to “yodel” anonymously and locally based on the location of your mobile device.

K: KPI

KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator. It is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively key business objectives are achieved.

L: LIVESTREAMING

Real-time streaming or broadcasting is when a video is broadcast live online to a viewer, for example via Instagram’s live feature.

M: META

The US technology giant, formerly known as Facebook. Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Whatsapp are Meta’s platforms.

Q: QR-CODE

A QR code is a two-dimensional (2D) barcode that, when scanned with a smartphone, usually opens a webpage. QR codes are used in printed materials such as advertisements, brochures and newspapers.

R: REELS

Reels is the Instagram equivalent of the TikTok video. A single Reel is a video between 3 and 180 seconds long.

S: SNAPCHAT

A social media platform, especially popular with young audiences, based on disappearing video content. Like Instagram, Snapchat has a Story feature where video content can be viewed for a few days.

T: TYPES OF INFLUENCERS

There are different types of influencers, which can be defined by follower count:

U: UGC

Short for user generated content. Originally, the term was used to refer to consumer-generated content that brands invited consumers to engage with through various means, such as sweepstakes or prizes. Nowadays, the term is understood differently and often refers to content produced by an influencer for a brand, i.e. in practical terms, content produced by an influencer for a brand.

V: VIDEO VIEWS

An advertising target that optimises advertising to users who are most likely to view video content.

W: WE LISTEN AND WE DON’T JUDGE

The TikTok trend, where people who are close to each other (for example, couples or siblings) confess things they consider to be secrets. The idea is that the confession should be listened to and never judged, or even commented on.

X: GENERATION X

The generation born in 1961-1980.

Y: GENERATION Y

Refers to millennials, i.e. those born between 1981 and 1997.

Z: GENERATION Z

Refers to the generation born between 1998 and 2010.
